Going Beyond â Ending the HIV epidemic by 2030 : From Belgium to the EU
Belgium and the European Union (EU) have demonstrated a strong commitment to ending the HIV epidemic as a public health threat, recognizing the ongoing challenges and the critical need for continued action. Despite notable progress, both entities acknowledge the evolving dynamics of the epidemic, particularly the demographic shifts among those living with HIV.
To bolster these efforts, Gilead Sciences organized the second event of "Going Beyondâ focusing on: âEnding the HIV epidemic by 2030 - From Belgium to the EU" on Thursday, 21 March 2024, at the BIP Meeting Center in Brussels. This multi-stakeholder event aimed to unite both Belgian and EU stakeholders, fostering collaboration and dialogue to discuss solutions to address the challenges of HIV.

Going Beyond After movie â Ending the HIV epidemic by 2030
This served as a pivotal platform for sharing insights, strategies, and best practices, underlining the collective commitment to advancing the shared goal to end the HIV epidemic as a public health threat in Europe. This with the aim to enhancing integrated person-centered care looking at the (health related) quality of life of people with HIV, highlighting the key role of innovation in this cause and integrated efforts across Europe to better serve affected individuals and communities, including the most vulnerable ones.
During the policy dialogue, key figures from various sectorsâincluding Belgian policymakers, international key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals (HCPs), and members of the European Parliamentâcontributed their expertise, experience and knowledge.
The outcome of the exchange are 3 call-to-actions to improve the way we:
- Reach vulnerable communities
- Adress lifespan wellbeing of people living with HIV
- Advocate for holistic HIV policy action plans at all levels

Going Beyond â Tackling HIV, Together
On Thursday, April 27, 2023, the multi-stakeholder event âGoing Beyond â Tackling HIV, Togetherâ took place. This event, organized by Gilead Sciences in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy, brought together a wide range of stakeholders, comprising policymakers, governmental agencies, research centers, community organizations, health funds, academics, and key opinion leaders working together to solve the challenges of HIV. The diverse representation of participants demonstrated the collective commitment to fight HIV.
The various speakers and panellists shared their insights on:
- The Belgian HIV landscape: progress, challenges and prevention strategies
- Healthy aging with HIV
- Combined prevention strategies
- Combating stigma and promoting support
- Value-based health care
Together, we can end this epidemic through a global, multidisciplinary and cross-cutting approach aligned with different societal actors and in collaboration with all stakeholders.
